I work on an island off the coast of wales, and as such I only have internet connection when I get off the island! So please don't take it personally if I don't get back to you or anything! On the making things front, just finished a small sperm whale carving which was then charred, very hard to photograph it properly though, will try to get a good picture up. I am halfway through a new spoon with a twist to it, next projects include a feather which will really test me I feel! I can decide whether to carve it out of green oak, peat bog oak or some lovely deep coloured cherry??? Thanks for all the nice comments. Dave

New to DA

0 min read
Hello Everyone, I'm very new to DA but my partner, whitewave-moth http://whitewave-moth.deviantart.com/ has been using it for a number of years and I decided to give it a try. My craft is woodcarving, I like to bring the character out in trees, not just use them as a medium, and feel the objects I carve are lying dormant in the wood and I am only helping them to be seen. I'm not a fan of a lot of the carvings you get in gift shops that seem to all be carved in some sort of tropical wood, mainly because they seem to all be done using power tools and power carvers in far eastern countries using cheap labour, they just seem a little impersonal

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments, been abit busy lately, but hopefully I should have a few items to put up again soon, including a large leaping salmon that ive been slowly working on for a couple of years, my first knife and a owl too.

Its lovely to see some of the nice things people produce and display on deviant art, It gives me faith to keep on making things.
you're welcome
